I have also started to avoid purchasing certain items if it is going to frustrate me to place it (or temporarily placing items for harvest) just to skirt this issue in general. I have not found very many recipes for decoration items so sometimes that option isn't available and often if I do have a recipe it means surrounding an component with like 3-4 of the same item that I might not particularly like - just meets the requirement. That's true and that has worked out for most of my issues, just makes it frustrating for aesthetic reasons. So you can literally ignore dislikes system with enough decor.
